Create and Post First WordPress Blog Post Using All Features:
There are so many possible steps involving in creating and posting the blog post in WordPress. This post will cover all steps that teach you how to create a post and add advanced aspects that involved in creating and publishing the post.
Creating the New Post:
After Login to your WordPress dashboard, we have two options to create a new post in WordPress websites.
- Go to “Posts” in WordPress dashboard and click on “Add New” option to create the new post.
- Click on the +New button and click on the post.
Whichever option you choose the result will be same and one blank post will be opened.
WordPress Post Editor:
After installing the WordPress, the post editor screen will consist only key elements like post title, post body and featured image but when you installed any plugins the screen option will be slightly different.
In some cases, post editor options will be hiding from the editor screen. To check the available options, go to screen options on the top of the page and we can set which options to be displayed on the screen.
The post editor screen consists two editors to write and edit the post, visual and text editors. The visual editor is the default mode of writing but you can easily switch to text editor mode.
The visual editor icons allow you to change the text format, change word alignment, insert the bullet and numbered list, insert and delete links and much more to the WordPress post. In visual editor by default, only one line icons will be displayed. To display the second row of icons select the toggle toolbar.
The HTML editor allows you to write in HTML and add shortcodes and add font styles.
Add Post Title:
The title of the blog post plays an important role in attracting the viewers. Always add the correct title that suits your post and add keywords in the post title. By Adding the keywords in post title help you in ranking the blog post in search engines. Always keep the title short and simple. Add post title on the top of the post.
Create Content:
Content is the king in blogging. You have to express your feelings with added quality. Write the content detailed and conversational mode. While writing the post, imagine that you are talking to other person and write down. Your content should be directly focused on the blog topic.
Simply type your content in post text area. You can easily switch to visual or text editor to write your content. You can easily add styles and format your content using visual editor tools. Both text and images can be aligned using alignment icons and can justify the text with justify tool. The style drop-down menu allows you to change the formatting of the selected text. This includes various headings.
Add Images:
Images are the great ways to enhance your WordPress blog and adding and managing is very easy. Click on add media button at the top of the visual editor menu and click on upload files and select and upload the image to the post. If it’s already uploaded to your blog media simply select add media button and click on media library and select the image which you want to use in the post. You need to add attachment details like title, caption and alt text of the image and you can change the image alignment, image link and size of the image in display settings.
You can also change the setting by clicking on the image and selecting the edit option.
Add Links:
Adding links to the blog post is very important and you can easily add links to your WordPress post. to add the link first select the text which you want to link and click on insert/edit link button on the visual editor toolbar and in the popup box paste the URL and click on apply.
To edit or remove the link simply place the cursor on the link text and click on pencil button to edit the link or click on X button to remove the link.
Add Category:
Categories are the helpful way to set related posts together. Categories make easy to find the content and related articles quickly to the readers. You can assign multiple categories per post. You can easily assign and/or create the new category to the post before publishing.
You can select the pre-created category from the categories list or click on add new category button and add the new category for the post.
Add Featured Image:
A featured image represents the content, mood or theme of the post. A post can have a single featured image. In your post editor click on set featured image button under the featured image and upload the image and set as featured image.
If featured image option did not appear in the post editor go to screen option and select the featured image option.
Add Focus Keywords And Meta Keywords:
Focus keyword is the keyword that used to rank your page. When people search for the keyword, a search engine will find out the post based on post focus keyword. Adding focus keywords and Meta keywords to post content will increase the findability in search engines. You can easily add focus and Meta keyword using the Yoast SEO plugin.
Add Meta description:
A Meta description is a summary of post content. Search engines show The Meta description in search results. Optimizing the Meta description is very important for better SEO. You can easily add Meta description using the Yoast SEO plugin.
Change The Permalink:
A permanent static hyperlink of a web page is called permalink. Generally, it’s a link to your blog post. Add keywords to permalinks that target the post content. Permalinks contain focus keywords helps to improve ranking in search engines.
Simply click on edit option to edit the permalink and click on ok to confirm it.
Publish The Post:
After completing the post you can check the post preview by clicking on the preview button. If all in the order you can hit publish button to publish the post. Now your post has been published successfully and you can view the post by clicking on view post.
You can still edit and update after publishing the post.
